AP sources: Obama summons Senate Dems to WH

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will meet with Senate Democrats at the White House Tuesday to press for action at a make-or-break moment for his health care overhaul.

All 60 members of the Democratic caucus have been invited, according to three Democratic officials. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement was not yet public.

The meeting comes as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid works to round up votes to get a sweeping health bill passed before Christmas. The outcome is uncertain with moderates in danger of defecting on issues including abortion and a proposed expansion of Medicare.

Anyone who understands the real needs of health care reform will reject this poorly disguised attempt at a government takeover of 1/6th of the American economy.

Since the early 20th century, progressive socialists have ignored the U.S. Constitution and enacted legislation which infringes upon our personal liberties and grants more power to an ever growing government.  Social Security, Medicare, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, The Department of Education, the Department of Energy…year after year they’ve whittled away at the concept of limited government and the legal, Constitionally established confines of enumerated powers.

The progressive socialists currently wielding seemingly unchecked, arrogant power keep insisting that the one and only way to create competition within the health care industry and therefore lower costs is to introduce a “public option”.  Those who understand the marketplace and comprehend true competition know that this is an absolute lie.

A “public option”, whatever final form it might take, would do nothing of the sort.  A government run health care provider, backed by a government which has already shown a propensity for unchecked deficit spending, would simply and eventually drive all private competition out of business.  What America would be left with is a debt ridden government run single payer system, which will resemble every other similar system currently in existence.  What would naturally follow is a bureaucratic riddled rationing board dedicated more to saving a bankrupt country money than to providing quality health care.

The best way to bring about real health care reform and lower costs is to repeal Truman era legislation which prohibits the sale of health care insurance policies across state lines.  The country would immediately see an explosion of real competition among hundreds of companies seeking to increase their market share.

Eliminate the system of employer provided health care insurance and liberate individual citizens to purchase the policy which best suits the needs of themselves and/or their families.

The best solution to ensuring coverage of people with pre-existing conditions is for simple legislation which renders denying those people coverage illegal.  In this way, government will be playing it’s correct role in the game…that of an umpire rather than a player.

The most favorable outcome for America would be for the Senate bill to die.  Then serious people who’re honestly concerned about providing true solutions can get to work creating real, effective health care reform.
